4D Avionic Systems is a research and development company focused on creating tailored 4D flight path based autonomous conflict detection and resolution (CD&R) software for UAV traffic managers and flight operators.
The Problem

The number of sUAS aircraft and the number of sUAS operations are steadily increasing year over year. Higher densities combined with an economic incentive for single operator to multi-vehicle operations drives a need for greater automation.
Our Solution
Our 4D flight path model provides a common analytical framework for describing aircraft trajectories, airspace constraints, known obstacles, and more. Our autonomous CD&R algorithms use these models to provide conflict event observability and provide a variety of resolution maneuvers.
Our Results
The company has developed a fully functioning proof-of-concept demonstration that includes a relational database to store information from the knowledge models, communication protocols to support a client-server architecture, a GUI for running experimental operations, and a display that uses the information available in the database to provide visual awareness of the present and future states of the aircraft in the airspace.
